SHAILEY TRIPP hires noted forensic expert to examine electronic property seized by police

Shailey Tripp, the 37-year-old former licensed massage therapist embroiled in a sex scandal involving the husband of former Vice Presidential candidate and FOX news pundit Sarah Palin, has hired a well known private investigator to determine whether computers and cell phones believed to contain evidence of her affair with Todd Palin may have been tampered with while in the custody of the Anchorage Police Department (APD) in Anchorage, Alaska.

“I have instructed my attorney to submit all of my electronic property, including cell phones, to Colorado Springs P.I. Ed Opperman and his Nevada based digital forensic company, Accurate Information Recovery Inc.,” Tripp said, adding, “My expectation is that he will be able to recover substantial evidence of my relationship with Todd and corroborate what I have been saying about Todd's prostitution activities.”

"I look forward to examining the material in question," , Opperman adding, "Once my examination is complete the report will be made available to Ms. Tripp for her to do as she wishes. We have no political stake or opinion in the matter. This is just an impartial search for the truth."

When Tripp was arrested for prostitution by the APD in March 2010, officers seized a sizeable amount of electronic gear and paper documentation that Tripp has maintained contain evidence of a prostitution ring that included Todd Palin and other powerful figures in Alaska. When her case was dismissed last June, Judge Pamela Washington ordered that all of Tripp’s property be returned to her. After battling the APD for several months the department finally returned some of her property but not all.
In an effort to gain the return of her remaining property Tripp has file a complaint with APD’s Internal Affairs Division and the Municipal Ombudsman. Then on November 30 Judge Washington took the unusual step of issuing a new order to the Anchorage Municipal Prosecutor and APD, giving the agencies ten days to comply or be held in contempt.
Opperman will examine the electronic equipment that has been returned to Trip so far. “A big part of Mr. Opperman’s job will be to determine of any of my property was tampered with while it was in the APD’s possession. Detective McKinnon assured me that it had not been examined.”
Tripp has ample reason to be concerned after learning that an APD officer, Lt. Dave Parker, issued a misleading press release at the specific request of Sarah Palin lawyer John Tiemessen. The release, which coincided with a planned National Enquirer expose about Todd, stated that APD had examined Tripp’s property and found no mention of Todd Palin. The Palins used this press release to discredit the Enquirer story and the tabloid decided not to pursue the story. Parker later admitted to blogger/lawyer Malia Litman that the department had not thoroughly examined the property and therefore could not exclude Todd as being tied to Tripp.
Tripp has asked APD Internal Affairs to examine whether Parker acted improperly in issuing the press release. Internal Affairs has so far not responded to her request.
Tripp’s documentation is part of a book she is writing about her life story, including her involvement with Todd Palin. Because she has received threats, she is taking no chances with her material. “I put all the other evidence such as notebooks, calendars, appointments books, receipts, gift certificates, client forms, and other materials in a secure location,” she said. “I have taken the added step of making multiple copies and saving them in several locations physcially and on the Internet."

My name is Patrick Meighan, and I’m a husband, a father, a writer on the Fox animated sitcom “Family Guy”, and a member of the Unitarian Universalist Community Church of Santa Monica.

I was arrested at about 1 a.m. Wednesday morning with 291 other people at Occupy LA. I was sitting in City Hall Park with a pillow, a blanket, and a copy of Thich Nhat Hanh’s “Being Peace” when 1,400 heavily-armed LAPD officers in paramilitary SWAT gear streamed in. I was in a group of about 50 peaceful protestors who sat Indian-style, arms interlocked, around a tent (the symbolic image of the Occupy movement). The LAPD officers encircled us, weapons drawn, while we chanted “We Are Peaceful” and “We Are Nonviolent” and “Join Us.”

As we sat there, encircled, a separate team of LAPD officers used knives to slice open every personal tent in the park. They forcibly removed anyone sleeping inside, and then yanked out and destroyed any personal property inside those tents, scattering the contents across the park. They then did the same with the communal property of the Occupy LA movement. For example, I watched as the LAPD destroyed a pop-up canopy tent that, until that moment, had been serving as Occupy LA’s First Aid and Wellness tent, in which volunteer health professionals gave free medical care to absolutely anyone who requested it. As it happens, my family had personally contributed that exact canopy tent to Occupy LA, at a cost of several hundred of my family’s dollars. As I watched, the LAPD sliced that canopy tent to shreds, broke the telescoping poles into pieces and scattered the detritus across the park. Note that these were the objects described in subsequent mainstream press reports as “30 tons of garbage” that was “abandoned” by Occupy LA: personal property forcibly stolen from us, destroyed in front of our eyes and then left for maintenance workers to dispose of while we were sent to prison.

When the LAPD finally began arresting those of us interlocked around the symbolic tent, we were all ordered by the LAPD to unlink from each other (in order to facilitate the arrests). Each seated, nonviolent protester beside me who refused to cooperate by unlinking his arms had the following done to him: an LAPD officer would forcibly extend the protestor’s legs, grab his left foot, twist it all the way around and then stomp his boot on the insole, pinning the protestor’s left foot to the pavement, twisted backwards. Then the LAPD officer would grab the protestor’s right foot and twist it all the way the other direction until the non-violent protestor, in incredible agony, would shriek in pain and unlink from his neighbor.

It was horrible to watch, and apparently designed to terrorize the rest of us. At least I was sufficiently terrorized. I unlinked my arms voluntarily and informed the LAPD officers that I would go peacefully and cooperatively. I stood as instructed, and then I had my arms wrenched behind my back, and an officer hyperextended my wrists into my inner arms. It was super violent, it hurt really really bad, and he was doing it on purpose. When I involuntarily recoiled from the pain, the LAPD officer threw me face-first to the pavement. He had my hands behind my back, so I landed right on my face. The officer dropped with his knee on my back and ground my face into the pavement. It really, really hurt and my face started bleeding and I was very scared. I begged for mercy and I promised that I was honestly not resisting and would not resist.

My hands were then zipcuffed very tightly behind my back, where they turned blue. I am now suffering nerve damage in my right thumb and palm.

I was put on a paddywagon with other nonviolent protestors and taken to a parking garage in Parker Center. They forced us to kneel on the hard pavement of that parking garage for seven straight hours with our hands still tightly zipcuffed behind our backs. Some began to pass out. One man rolled to the ground and vomited for a long, long time before falling unconscious. The LAPD officers watched and did nothing.

At 9 a.m. we were finally taken from the pavement into the station to be processed. The charge was sitting in the park after the police said not to. It’s a misdemeanor. Almost always, for a misdemeanor, the police just give you a ticket and let you go. It costs you a couple hundred dollars. Apparently, that’s what happened with most every other misdemeanor arrest in LA that day.

With us Occupy LA protestors, however, they set bail at $5,000 and booked us into jail. Almost none of the protesters could afford to bail themselves out. I’m lucky and I could afford it, except the LAPD spent all day refusing to actually *accept* the bail they set. If you were an accused murderer or a rapist in LAPD custody that day, you could bail yourself right out and be back on the street, no problem. But if you were a nonviolent Occupy LA protestor

I spent most of my day and night crammed into an eight-man jail cell, along with sixteen other Occupy LA protesters. My sleeping spot was on the floor next to the toilet.

Finally, at 2:30 the next morning, after twenty-five hours in custody, I was released on bail. But there were at least 200 Occupy LA protestors who couldn’t afford the bail. The LAPD chose to keep those peaceful, non-violent protesters in prison for two full days… the absolute legal maximum that the LAPD is allowed to detain someone on misdemeanor charges.

As a reminder, Antonio Villaraigosa has referred to all of this as “the LAPD’s finest hour.”

So that’s what happened to the 292 women and men were arrested last Wednesday. Now let’s talk about a man who was not arrested last Wednesday. He is former Citigroup CEO Charles Prince. Under Charles Prince, Citigroup was guilty of massive, coordinated securities fraud.

CitigroupCitigroup security, Citigroup executives were internally calling it, quote, “a collection of dogshit”. To investors, however, they called it, quote, “an attractive investment rigorously selected by an independent investment adviser”.

This is fraud, and it’s a felony, and the Charles Princes of the world spent several years doing it again and again: knowingly writing bad mortgages, and then packaging them into fraudulent securities which they then sold to suckers and then repeating the process. This is a big part of why your property values went up so fast. But then the bubble burst, and that’s why our economy is now shattered for a generation, and it’s also why your home is now underwater. Or at least mine is.

Anyway, if your retirement fund lost a decade’s-worth of gains overnight, this is why.
If your son’s middle school has added furlough days because the school district can’t afford to keep its doors open for a full school year, this is why.

If your daughter has come out of college with a degree only to discover that there are no jobs for her, this is why.

But back to Charles Prince. For his four years of in charge of massive, repeated fraud at Citigroup, he received fifty-three million dollars in salary and also received another ninety-four million dollars in stock holdings. What Charles Prince has *not* received is a pair of zipcuffs. The nerves in his thumb are fine. No cop has thrown Charles Prince into the pavement, face-first. Each and every peaceful, nonviolent Occupy LA protester arrested last week has has spent more time sleeping on a jail floor than every single Charles Prince on Wall Street, combined.

The more I think about that, the madder I get. What does it say about our country that nonviolent protesters are given the bottom of a police boot while those who steal hundreds of billions, do trillions worth of damage to our economy and shatter our social fabric for a generation are not only spared the zipcuffs but showered with rewards?

In any event, believe it or not, I’m really not angry that I got arrested. I chose to get arrested. And I’m not even angry that the mayor and the LAPD decided to give non-violent protestors like me a little extra shiv in jail (although I’m not especially grateful for it either).

I’m just really angry that every single Charles Prince wasn’t in jail with me.

The POTUS in St. Louis...Me, too!

At last! Internet service! I hate that I had to resort to sitting in a Starbucks at the Renaissance Grand in St. Louis, but they've got free WiFi. And I was going through withdrawals from not having access for 3 days. You won't find any of the usual "luxuries" staying here-even at the finer hotels. No free wifi, no phone book, lil sewing kit, filtered water, coffee maker, bathrobes...not even one of those super sexy shower caps. The obligatory bible, of course, is there on the night table. For a family leading a simple life, you kind of look forward to going out of town and enjoying these little luxuries. I know, there are starving children and I shouldn't bitch. Adjusting attitude in 3...2...1...

It's a sign of the economic times and perhaps it's noticeable effects here in St. Louis. In a city filled with fabulous history and old buildings, almost every ground floor space you pass is for sale/lease/rent. All this grand and eclectic space cold and empty. Ghostown-ish. Peering into the windows as we pass by, this artist's mind reels envisioning all the potential restaurants, art galleries, quaint book stores, shops, music venues and the like that could fill this small city. It's really is sad. Sign-o-the-times, indeed.

St. Lewie's economy should be getting a bump this week, though! It'll be bustling chaos in the city tonight. Between the hoards of people attending the convention my husband is here for(news of this actually hit FAUX NEWS-St. Louis is stoked to be hosting these 4000+ people), the Cards playing the Philies, and our President popping in to this very hotel tonight for a fundraiser. I'll keep my camera handy!

BTW...The Gateway Arch really is pretty fekkin' COOL!

WHAT was that word?!?!? This is one of those niggling things that keep me awake at night! A few months ago, I was listening in to the Thom Hartmann show when he was discussing the aftermath of the Giffords shooting. He threw out a particular term that described the ages old and insidious practice of politicians using violent rhetoric and symbology(cough, PALIN, cough) in the hopes of "activating" TEH CRAZY in violent leaning people. Does anyone know what the term for this is?!?!? AAAARRG!! It's on the tip of tongue.....

So, Tranny Palin is threatening to sue Random House(lol) and Joe McGinnis for publishing false statements in his book, The Rogue? Really! Their accusations are based on the "revealing" and mysteriously leaked email between Mr. McGinnis and Gryphen from Immoral Minority. You know, the one where Joe implores Gryphen to help garner empirical evidence to back up some of the more salacious rumors that had been circulating regarding Palin, or else he can't include them in his book? In this email Joe almost scolds Gryph with ,"[Y]ou write frequently that you know things you can’t yet post, but that soon “all will be revealed.” This has been going on since I first became aware of your blog, but as far as I know you haven’t substantiated a single claim or provided verification for a single rumor that you’ve posted about Sarah’s personal life, or the personal lives of any Palin family members. . . .
Neither from you, the Enquirer, AlaskaWTF, palingates.com or anyone else, have I seen a credible, identified source backing any of the salacious stories about the Palin family.
Thus — as Random House lawyers are already pointing out to me — nothing I can cite other than my own reporting rises above the level of tawdry gossip. The proof is always just around the corner, but that’s a corner nobody has been able to turn. . . .. "

So. I find myself at a crossroads of wondering how I can push Joe McGinnis's new book, The Rogue when the question of his personal character comes into play. His ethics breech regarding Blind Allegiance, throwing fellow bloggers under the bus, etc. makes one wonder about the validity of The Rogue. I guess when it comes down to his books, one must put aside the person and focus on McGinnis's record as an accomplished author...who has displayed integrity and tenacity in his investigative writing. I feel it is ultimately important that the information contained in his book-especially since it seems to confirm a lot of what Mudflats has been reveling in their "cutting room floor" series-is brought to light for all to see. SPOT lights. Blasting America in the face. So, I join with others in recommending you get out and purchase, borrow from the library, or kipe from a friend, The Rogue-Searching for the Real Sarah Palin.
Personally, I have taken to purchasing these Palin truth books, reading them, and then leaving them in public places for others to pick up and read. Spread the truth-clean up our country!!!

You know there MUST be a LOT going on in the Palinsphere when even Yours Truly feels the need to open up the windows and dust the cobwebs off the old blog to have a say. One of the MANY reasons that I stopped regularly posting here was the defeating feeling that Palin and other morally bereft shysters of her ilk could be elevated into positions of power and/or Hollywood super stardom based on complete pretense and submerged in scandal. Even MORE crushing is that the people of this country LET IT HAPPEN. In the past years, every time compelling info has come forth to shed light on the scandals of Palin and friends, the thinking people quickened with the hope that the end of Palin's career was near. And every time, despite the hard work of a few, these revelations were swept under the carpet. It has defied reason.... and further emboldened an arguably mentally disturbed Sarah. The Babygate photos, the Shailey Tripp prostitution scandal, and much more.
As of late though, I feel compelled to add my voice and aid in pointing everyone towards some of the new revelations that have come to light. I have long been on the fence about Babygate....crazy-info overload and my own naive inability to believe that something this OUTRAGEOUS could actually happen...that this "woman" could actually get away with this bizarre charade and go on to gain the power, influence, and opportunity that she has. My main concern regarding sweet Trig was the immediately tangible...how in the hell was it OK with America that Mama Griz flew all over the country, bypassing hospitals equipped to care for high risk labors and special needs pre-mies -while she was in premature labor- just so that she could mosie on up to Wasilly to give birth?!?! However, all those compelling photos have kept me intrigued and in a waiting mode. Waiting for something a little more concrete.
Well, lookie here! The cement truck just pulled into the driveway!!!!

Months ago I voiced outrage here about the hate inciting vitriol, images and rhetoric streaming out of the maw of Sarah Palin. Someone complained that I was wrongly accusing her of inciting violence because there had been no "evidence of violent acts". My reply was that just because no one had killed anyone or started riots-YET- didn't mean that those seeds were not planted...SP and her ilk have passed a carte blanche to all the tinfoil cap wearing lunatics out there.

Did that cunt-YES, I have used the queen mother of bad words to describe a woman-ROLL her eyes as she issued her lame "condolences"?

UPDATE: My sincere apologies for yesturday's comment about, "It should have been YOU, Sarah." I hereby refudiate those words and am ashamed that I sank to the low level of tea bagger and wrote them. Horrigan: An evolutionary theory of conservatism

Now comes some staggering research: An evolutionary psychologist at the London School of Economics theorizes that liberals and atheists are further along the evolutionary scale than conservatives and religious believers.

It's not like they're Cro-Magnons. It's just that today's more intelligent people "are more likely to adopt social values and behaviors that are relatively new to human life — liberalism, atheism, staying up late, and (for men) monogamy, for example."

Hey, don't blame me. This is not my theory. I'm just reporting it. As a religious believer myself, I'm a little upset about it.

Satoshi Kanazawa wrote in Social Psychology Quarterly that evolutionary theory "suggests that more intelligent individuals may be more likely to acquire and espouse evolutionarily novel values and preferences (such as liberalism and atheism and, for men, sexual exclusivity) than less intelligent individuals."

Lest I be accused of merely parroting the mainstream liberal press, let me say I read about the report in the National Geographic Daily News. What's got more good old-fashioned conservative values (except for a suspicious belief in science and an occasional photograph of bare-breasted women) than National Geographic?

The article reports: "Kanazawa's theory is that intelligence — particularly our ability for on-the-spot problem solving and reasoning — arose as an adaptation to deal with the unusual and unexpected, such as a sudden forest fire.

"Since disasters like that are rare in daily life, responding to them wouldn't likely be something our ancestors were hard-wired to ‘know' how to do. Surviving the fire required both the ability to think up a new behavior, and the willingness to try it out.

"Passed down via genetics, those two traits are still the calling cards of an intelligent brain — expressed as a tendency toward adopting nontraditional social values and preferences, Kanazawa says."

In short, the article says, "Smart people's brains (are) better adapted to dealing with change."

Obviously a lot of conservatives are going to have trouble with this theory, particularly those who don't believe in evolution.

Also, if Kanazawa is correct, conservative male believers would be more likely to be "non-monogamous" (i.e., prone to "hiking the Appalachian Trail" and other forms of cheating) than liberal non-believers. I'm not sure how you'd design an accurate survey to test this.

Kanazawa bases his conclusion on the University of North Carolina's longitudinal study of adolescents — one that follows the same group of people over the years. They all got the same IQ test as teenagers and seven years later, researchers went back to ask them about their beliefs.

The young adults who described themselves as "not at all religious" and "very liberal" politically had adolescent IQ scores that averaged 11 points higher than the young adults who described themselves as "very conservative" and "very religious."

Kanazawa says 11 points is significant, because "liberalism (defined as caring about large groups of people you'll never meet) is a very new thing for humans."

Here's the problem with that: Most young adults haven't had much experience with death yet, and death is something that challenges religious beliefs (or non-beliefs) in unimaginable ways.

Also, until a young person gets invested in society — with a family, a job, a mortgage and taxes — it's a lot easier to be liberal. The trick is holding onto it after you're older.

And while IQ tests may be good at determining a certain kind of learned intelligence, they're not so good at measuring native intelligence.

Other researchers have advanced theories that intelligence evolved as a product of competing for mates. As the National Geographic Daily points out, if that's correct, and Kanazawa's conclusions also are correct, liberals and atheists would be more sexually attractive than conservatives and believers.

This has not been my experience, but then that's the trouble with science: It forces you to get away from your own experience and rely on hard data involving large numbers and complex thought.

Some people have a hard time with that.

We work on campaigns, we support ballot initiatives through the long and arduous process, we collect signatures, we man tables, we attend long boring meetings. But there are other times when a simple hour or two of our time can have immediate results of a critical nature.

This is one of those times.

Clear your calendar for Tuesday night, because you will have the opportunity to cast a vote for wildlife, and for supporting a sustainable model of conservation - a recognition that the land and its wildlife are not here for us to “harvest” only, but that we must strike a balance between what we take, and what we leave for the greater enjoyment of all. There is no question that many Alaskans, Native and non-Native, rural and urban, hunt and fish for subsistence, and for sport. But for too long, the voices of those who stack our commissions see Alaska’s wildlife as ONLY a resource to be eaten or hung on a wall, and not as creatures in their own right, and a renewable resource for photographers, tourists and outdoor enthusiasts.

You have the opportunity on Tuesday night to put Alaskans who understand that there must be a balance in these matters on the Citizens Advisory Committee to the Alaska Department of Fish and Game. These positions DO matter in determining policy.

The “kill & grill” crowd understands the importance of this meeting. That’s why they are “up in arms” so to speak, and urging members of organizations like the Second Amendment Task Force to storm this meeting and install candidates who, if elected could reverse some important ground we’ve gained this year, including the recommendation to expand the safe buffer zone for wolves around Denali Park. Here’s how they are mobilizing:

Radical environmental groups have mobilized to insert their preferred candidate’s in order to use the board to promote their twisted agenda, including supporting the listing of cook inlet Beluga’s as endangered.

Members of Anchorage 2ATF as well as other conservative candidate’s are in need of the public votes. A conservative slate of candidates will be made evident at the meeting. We need you there to vote for these candidates.

Wow. The gun club has suddenly become full of marine biologists. Their lack of a balanced perspective is obvious, and all it will take is warm bodies 18 and older at the meeting to vote.

So, yes. This is urgent.

And quite simply, the outcome will be determined by who has more people there – those whose sole objective is to seek any opportunity to kill things, and those who see the bigger picture.

So please send this information to every conservation-minded person you know and ask them to forward as well. Make it fun. Come with friends. Join with like-minded people to stand up for what we love most about our state.

The Anchorage Fish & Game Advisory Committee will hold its election meeting

Anchorage School District Education Center, located at 5530 E Northern Lights Blvd, in the School Board room.

Last year the conservation community rallied to elect three members to the committee and what a difference it made! In one short year those three members successfully passed conservation proposals to:

Support the expansion of the Denali Wolf Buffer Zone;
Restrict Nonresidents from hunting in predator control areas;
Support the proposal to end wolverine trapping in Chugach State Park

These are incredibly positive changes, and if those who do not support conservation are elected to the open seats, they will undo the good work that has already been accomplished. We cannot let that happen.

So, put on your activist cap, grab your friends and give an hour or two that will have an immediate positive impact on your community, your state and the wild creatures that share our home.

For those ~~poor bastards~~ folks lucky(?!) enough to have received some excerpts from Sarah Palin's Going Rogue, here's a pat on the back and a virtual home brew for having the stomach to read, dissect the lies, and share with the rest of us. You must need it, and more. NO ONE is masochistic enough to be reading this swill for shits and giggles. Unless, of course, you are a Palin lemming already nocturnally emitting at mere the thought of TOMORROW.

Here are the first ten lies from Palin's memoirs:

1.The Cover Byline: Palin didn't write the book by herself. Most books with known ghostwriters list their co-author's name on the cover. In this case it was Lynn Vincent (a well-known homophobe). Going Rogue does not.

2.The Subtitle: An American Life. Aside from her infancy, Palin has really spent very little time outside of Alaska, and according to John McCain's campaign advisors, was shockingly unfamiliar with American geography and American history. "Alaska," as John McPhee noted in his resplendent Coming Into the Country, "is a foreign country...Its nature is its own."

3.Going Rogue features Palin's obsession with Katie Couric and characterizes the CBS anchor as "badgering." Palin refused to prep for the Couric interview because she was more concerned about her popularity in Alaska than about what was best for the campaign. Was it really badgering to ask what books or periodicals Palin read? Palin further claims that Couric suffered from low self-esteem. In fact, according to those close to Palin, it's the former governor who suffers from low self-esteem and frequently projects that onto other women.

4.Palin asserts that there was a "jaded aura" around McCain's political advisors once she entered the campaign. In fact, McCain's aides bent over backwards to protect Palin and to try to get her up to speed on international affairs. In addition to not knowing whether or not Africa was a continent, according to sources in the McCain campaign, Palin also didn't understand the difference between England and Great Britain. And much, much more.

5.Palin contends to have been saddled with legal bills of more than $500,000 resulting from what she calls "frivolous" ethics complaints filed against her. The lion's share of those bills resulted from the ethics complaint she filed against herself in a legal maneuver to sidestep the Troopergate charges being brought against her by the bipartisan Alaska Legislative Council.

6.Palin rather astonishingly claims that she was saddled with $50,000 in bills for the legal fees associated with her vice-presidential vetting. A) She was not vetted; B) A McCain campaign advisor says this is "categorically untrue."

7.Palin states that she found out only "minutes" before John McCain's concession speech that she would not be allowed to make remarks of her own introducing McCain. In fact, she had been told at least three times that she would not be allowed to give the speech and kept lying about it in the hopes of creating some last-minute chaos that would allow her to assume the dais.

8.Palin asserts that her effort to award a license for a natural gas transmission line was turning a "pipe dream" into a pipeline. Although she claimed otherwise in her speech at the GOP convention, there is no pipeline. It remains a pipe dream.

9.Palin implies that the McCain campaign intentionally bungled the release of information regarding her daughter Bristol's pregnancy and refused to let her rewrite it. In fact, the McCain campaign allowed her to rework the draft, but the original version went out accidentally. Palin reportedly accepted the recalcitrant staff member's apology for the mistake, then when she left, ordered her immediately dismissed of her duties.

10.Palin complains that McCain's senior advisors, most notably Steve Schmidt, forced her to "stick with the script" they provided her. In fact, Schmidt & Co. were encumbered with the task of keeping Palin from lying and misleading people throughout the campaign, from her well-documented lies about the "Bridge to Nowhere" to her duplicities about her husband Todd's assocation with the Alaska Independence Party. Palin's lying to those in the McCain campaign was so troubling to them that they cringed every time she went "off script."

And that's just for starters.

Trick-or-Treating for your local food bank!

The fab Celtic Diva of Diva's Blue Oasis has come up with a wonderful idea for incorporating Halloween fun and the spirit of giving. While your kiddo's are going door to door for those Trick-or-Treat goodies, help nurture their compassion and humanity by giving them the experience of aiding in their community. Here's Linda's idea:

I was looking for a unique way to celebrate our first holiday season in our home. I started to think about those around the State who aren't feeling particularly festive.

We know that the folks in Rural Alaska are facing a very difficult winter...perhaps more difficult than last year when the Food Bank had to make multiple airlifts. We also know that the Homeless population in Anchorage is growing and combined with the economic downturn, use of the Food Bank went up 30% by Jan 2009. There is no reason to think that will not increase this year.

So, why wait until Thanksgiving to start donating food?

I wasn't able to organize a big food drive. So, I came up with an idea where I could make a little bit of a difference with the help of my neighbors. I figure that folks could also easily do the same in their own neighborhoods without a lot of planning or effort.

1) Several days ahead, paper the neighborhood with flyers letting folks know to bring a can/box of food to your house in exchange for candy (and possibly a piece of cake and cider, if you are so inclined!) Include a list of items from the Food Bank's website on the flyer. Make sure for your own peace-of-mind that they are all canned, boxed or bagged items (non-perishable) since you can't deliver them until Monday.

2) Make a sign to put up in your yard letting folks know that you are collecting items for the Food Bank.

3) Make sure you have a clean garbage can, box or other container to hold the items.

4) Be creative and have fun! (I'm dressing like a witch with a cauldron, bonfire, the works.)

5) Drop off the food at the Food Bank of Alaska on Monday!

Sarah Palin reported in financial disclosures out this morning that she received $1.25 million from publisher HarperCollins as "retainer for book."

The report doesn't give a date for when Palin received the money. But the disclosures cover money that Palin received during her final seven months as governor, from Jan. 1 to July 26.

No other details are offered on the book deal, but a retainer would just be an upfront piece of her money.

THE PRESIDENT: Good morning. Well, this is not how I expected to wake up this morning. After I received the news, Malia walked in and said, "Daddy, you won the Nobel Peace Prize, and it is Bo's birthday!" And then Sasha added, "Plus, we have a three-day weekend coming up." So it's good to have kids to keep things in perspective.

I am both surprised and deeply humbled by the decision of the Nobel Committee. Let me be clear: I do not view it as a recognition of my own accomplishments, but rather as an affirmation of American leadership on behalf of aspirations held by people in all nations.

To be honest, I do not feel that I deserve to be in the company of so many of the transformative figures who've been honored by this prize -- men and women who've inspired me and inspired the entire world through their courageous pursuit of peace.

But I also know that this prize reflects the kind of world that those men and women, and all Americans, want to build -- a world that gives life to the promise of our founding documents. And I know that throughout history, the Nobel Peace Prize has not just been used to honor specific achievement; it's also been used as a means to give momentum to a set of causes. And that is why I will accept this award as a call to action -- a call for all nations to confront the common challenges of the 21st century.

These challenges can't be met by any one leader or any one nation. And that's why my administration has worked to establish a new era of engagement in which all nations must take responsibility for the world we seek. We cannot tolerate a world in which nuclear weapons spread to more nations and in which the terror of a nuclear holocaust endangers more people. And that's why we've begun to take concrete steps to pursue a world without nuclear weapons, because all nations have the right to pursue peaceful nuclear power, but all nations have the responsibility to demonstrate their peaceful intentions.

We can't accept a world in which more people are denied opportunity and dignity that all people yearn for -- the ability to get an education and make a decent living; the security that you won't have to live in fear of disease or violence without hope for the future.

And even as we strive to seek a world in which conflicts are resolved peacefully and prosperity is widely shared, we have to confront the world as we know it today. I am the Commander-in-Chief of a country that's responsible for ending a war and working in another theater to confront a ruthless adversary that directly threatens the American people and our allies. I'm also aware that we are dealing with the impact of a global economic crisis that has left millions of Americans looking for work. These are concerns that I confront every day on behalf of the American people.

Some of the work confronting us will not be completed during my presidency. Some, like the elimination of nuclear weapons, may not be completed in my lifetime. But I know these challenges can be met so long as it's recognized that they will not be met by one person or one nation alone. This award is not simply about the efforts of my administration -- it's about the courageous efforts of people around the world.

President Barak Obama wins the NOBEL PEACE PRIZE.

As much as I wish I could shout out with joy, I'm confuzzled. Maybe I'm just crabby about our President piling too much on his plate from our Felliniesque buffet instead of focusing on 2 or 3 choice selections. I hate to say,"Poo poo, to the Whos", but isn't this award premature? He was nominated in February, only one month in office. On a global level, Obama has become a magnanimous presence well on the way to healing the international wounds inflicted by the Bush years as well as affecting a more harmonious world climate-of which I am infinitely grateful. And I still stand by what I said HERE, but we have yet to see any solid outcomes of his agenda! Not to down play his ongoing commitment to international and domestic peace and multilateralism, but I was under the impression the the The Nobel Peace prize was awarded for efforts realized, not for pledges and hope. Correct me if I'm wrong...

What about Afghanistan?!! Iraq?

And is the Nobel Peace Committee trying to maneuver something here? An assurance that our President will follow through with his original policies? I hope our President carries out his agenda on his own volition and standards.

Just as I have admonished all those lemmings out there who were/are so BEDAZZLED by the enchantment of the sparkly Sarah Palin, let's not get too pie-eyed. As inspiring, heartening, and diligent as he is, I strongly feel that our Obama has more to accomplish before this award can be considered truly earned .

Palin's ~~book of hastily shat out drivel~~ memoir, originally slated for release next spring, will be out in bookstores November 17th. Why the sudden haste? Perhaps The Immoral Minority , Bree Palin and Palin's Deceptions can shed some light. Although I am not convinced by the April 8th pregnant/not pregnant photo of Palin-that particular picture is quite poor and the aspect ratio looks "thinned"-they have some compelling ideas on the situation.

As far as the title of Palin's book...awhile back Celtic Diva listed some definitions of ROGUE to emphasize the insult after the term was used by the Palin camp to describe Walt Monnegan.

Sullivan is now fiddling about with our celebratory event nomenclature. He just not that into you if you're not upper crusty white. He eschews honoring all the wonderful cultural differences that abound in our city. He IS into heterogeneity...as long as you look like him.

“September is our Mayor’s Diversity Month and September 25th is the Diversity Awards banquet at the Hilton in downtown Anchorage. Unfortunately, Mayor Sullivan is uncomfortable with the term “diversity” and has changed the name to the “Unity” Awards Banquet and celebration. The mayor has stated publicly that he does not celebrate the ways in which we are all different, but rather, the ways in which we are the same.

Some of us do not feel celebrated at all, and are organizing a true diversity celebration on the same night, in the spirit of the current administration’s own definition of diversity. We have rented the Snow Goose (September 25th, doors open at 7pm and festivities begin at 7:30). We wish it to be as diverse and multi-cultural as possible and much more fun than whatever will occur at the Hilton. And while the “Unity” Dinner will feature a silent auction and cost the small price of $60 a ticket… Ours will be only $10 (just to cover costs) and is quickly filling up with local performers, awards, and speakers including Assemblywoman Elvi Gray-Jackson, Diane Benson, and Shannyn Moore!

It will be a great night, after what has been a rough summer for many in our Alaskan family, and we hope you can join us.

I've been to Ground Zero twice. Both visits evoking powerful emotions of grief, horror, and anger. Memories of groggily turning on the radio that morning in September '01. KNBA and a distraught yet even-keeled Camile Conte reporting that a second plane had just crashed into another NYC building.

When I brought my 14 year old daughter to Ground Zero last month, I steeled myself for another affecting blow. When I caught my first glimpse, I was quite surprised to see find how much had changed from when I had last seen it on Election Day of last year. In November, there had been a 2-3 story pit, not gaping and piled with the destruction of that day, but cleared out and reinforced with a skeleton of intricate interlays of cement walls and steel girders. There were enormous ramps set up to transport the many huge construction vehicles down into the pit.

I admit I was relieved to see the busyness of construction and not the carnage of those two collapsed giants. I had once stood on the deck of one of those towers on a high school photography field trip (THANK YOU for the opportunity Jane Garnes!!!) taking photos of that fantastic city and beyond. Incomprehensible to think of them both coming down...

When I returned with my daughter the pit was gone. What we saw from our vantage point was the ground floor of the future. Solid. Stable. They had just that morning lowered into place a 60 ft long, 7o ton girder shaped like a crucifix, one of 24 forming the core of the new skyscraper.

Sure...NO physical structure is indestructible. We are engulfed in impermanence. But what remains and endures is the collective human spirit and the drive and strength to forge on. I think of our friend who survived to go on and marry and live a wonderful life with a beautiful child... I see brutally gouged earth and hearts rising from the ashes...

Never in my life have I been so connected with and fired up by a president as I am by Barack Obama. The audacity of HOPE!!! A vision of a calmer and more united America...a nationwide healing on many levels. When our 44th president was handed the fallout of the Bush era on an chipped plate from the Salvation Army, I knew it would be an almost insurmountable road ahead of him. President Obama is not the second coming, but just a man. And although I am deeply disappointed by some of his actions and inaction so far, I know this man is a GOOD man. Sadly, our country is not ready for his platform of post-partisanship and uniting a divided nation. It pains me to have come to the realization that light-handedness, fairness and GIVE PEACE A CHANCE will not be the catalyst to forming "a more perfect union". Not right now. Over the past week I have run the gamut of feeling INCENSED, disgusted, chagrined, saddened, and bemused by the extreme right's condemnation of the Back-to-School speech to be given on Tuesday morning by President Obama. And now that I have read Obama's benign yet POWERFULLY motivating words of inspiration and encouragement, I am in tears of frustration. Has ANY other President addressing school kids about the importance of staying in school and trying their best EVER come into question like our current President?!?!? This is the disgusting face of RACISM rearing it's nasty, inbred, ignorant head from the bowels of our country. I am ashamed of these fellow Americans. What's utterly laughable is the fact that I've already been accused of being a racist and hater for even bringing up this sentiment. The Lush Bimbo Angle of turning everything back on the rational thinking person. I won't address these people further. They rely way too much on cherry-picking facts from Google-not on educated research- and the ravings of the Glen Beck/Rush Limbaugh ilk. Lemmings, don't become falsely puffed up by those of us who give up the discourse with you. It's not for lack of fact and moxie. "Discourse" with someone of your mindset is just sadly futile. Your "facts" are a frightening farce.

The President: Hello everyone – how’s everybody doing today? I’m here with students at Wakefield High School in Arlington, Virginia. And we’ve got students tuning in from all across America, kindergarten through twelfth grade. I’m glad you all could join us today.
I know that for many of you, today is the first day of school. And for those of you in kindergarten, or starting middle or high school, it’s your first day in a new school, so it’s understandable if you’re a little nervous. I imagine there are some seniors out there who are feeling pretty good right now, with just one more year to go. And no matter what grade you’re in, some of you are probably wishing it were still summer, and you could’ve stayed in bed just a little longer this morning.
I know that feeling. When I was young, my family lived in Indonesia for a few years, and my mother didn’t have the money to send me where all the American kids went to school. So she decided to teach me extra lessons herself, Monday through Friday – at 4:30 in the morning.
Now I wasn’t too happy about getting up that early. A lot of times, I’d fall asleep right there at the kitchen table. But whenever I’d complain, my mother would just give me one of those looks and say, "This is no picnic for me either, buster."
So I know some of you are still adjusting to being back at school. But I’m here today because I have something important to discuss with you. I’m here because I want to talk with you about your education and what’s expected of all of you in this new school year.
Now I’ve given a lot of speeches about education. And I’ve talked a lot about responsibility.
I’ve talked about your teachers’ responsibility for inspiring you, and pushing you to learn.
I’ve talked about your parents’ responsibility for making sure you stay on track, and get your homework done, and don’t spend every waking hour in front of the TV or with that Xbox.
I’ve talked a lot about your government’s responsibility for setting high standards, supporting teachers and principals, and turning around schools that aren’t working where students aren’t getting the opportunities they deserve.
But at the end of the day, we can have the most dedicated teachers, the most supportive parents, and the best schools in the world – and none of it will matter unless all of you fulfill your responsibilities. Unless you show up to those schools; pay attention to those teachers; listen to your parents, grandparents and other adults; and put in the hard work it takes to succeed.
And that’s what I want to focus on today: the responsibility each of you has for your education. I want to start with the responsibility you have to yourself.
Every single one of you has something you’re good at. Every single one of you has something to offer. And you have a responsibility to yourself to discover what that is. That’s the opportunity an education can provide.
Maybe you could be a good writer – maybe even good enough to write a book or articles in a newspaper – but you might not know it until you write a paper for your English class. Maybe you could be an innovator or an inventor – maybe even good enough to come up with the next iPhone or a new medicine or vaccine – but you might not know it until you do a project for your science class. Maybe you could be a mayor or a Senator or a Supreme Court Justice, but you might not know that until you join student government or the debate team.
And no matter what you want to do with your life – I guarantee that you’ll need an education to do it. You want to be a doctor, or a teacher, or a police officer? You want to be a nurse or an architect, a lawyer or a member of our military? You’re going to need a good education for every single one of those careers. You can’t drop out of school and just drop into a good job. You’ve got to work for it and train for it and learn for it.
And this isn’t just important for your own life and your own future. What you make of your education will decide nothing less than the future of this country. What you’re learning in school today will determine whether we as a nation can meet our greatest challenges in the future.
You’ll need the knowledge and problem-solving skills you learn in science and math to cure diseases like cancer and AIDS, and to develop new energy technologies and protect our environment. You’ll need the insights and critical thinking skills you gain in history and social studies to fight poverty and homelessness, crime and discrimination, and make our nation more fair and more free. You’ll need the creativity and ingenuity you develop in all your classes to build new companies that will create new jobs and boost our economy.
We need every single one of you to develop your talents, skills and intellect so you can help solve our most difficult problems. If you don’t do that – if you quit on school – you’re not just quitting on yourself, you’re quitting on your country.
Now I know it’s not always easy to do well in school. I know a lot of you have challenges in your lives right now that can make it hard to focus on your schoolwork.
I get it. I know what that’s like. My father left my family when I was two years old, and I was raised by a single mother who struggled at times to pay the bills and wasn’t always able to give us things the other kids had. There were times when I missed having a father in my life. There were times when I was lonely and felt like I didn’t fit in.
So I wasn’t always as focused as I should have been. I did some things I’m not proud of, and got in more trouble than I should have. And my life could have easily taken a turn for the worse.
But I was fortunate. I got a lot of second chances and had the opportunity to go to college, and law school, and follow my dreams. My wife, our First Lady Michelle Obama, has a similar story. Neither of her parents had gone to college, and they didn’t have much. But they worked hard, and she worked hard, so that she could go to the best schools in this country.
Some of you might not have those advantages. Maybe you don’t have adults in your life who give you the support that you need. Maybe someone in your family has lost their job, and there’s not enough money to go around. Maybe you live in a neighborhood where you don’t feel safe, or have friends who are pressuring you to do things you know aren’t right.
But at the end of the day, the circumstances of your life – what you look like, where you come from, how much money you have, what you’ve got going on at home – that’s no excuse for neglecting your homework or having a bad attitude. That’s no excuse for talking back to your teacher, or cutting class, or dropping out of school. That’s no excuse for not trying.
Where you are right now doesn’t have to determine where you’ll end up. No one’s written your destiny for you. Here in America, you write your own destiny. You make your own future.
That’s what young people like you are doing every day, all across America.
Young people like Jazmin Perez, from Roma, Texas. Jazmin didn’t speak English when she first started school. Hardly anyone in her hometown went to college, and neither of her parents had gone either. But she worked hard, earned good grades, got a scholarship to Brown University, and is now in graduate school, studying public health, on her way to being Dr. Jazmin Perez.
I’m thinking about Andoni Schultz, from Los Altos, California, who’s fought brain cancer since he was three. He’s endured all sorts of treatments and surgeries, one of which affected his memory, so it took him much longer – hundreds of extra hours – to do his schoolwork. But he never fell behind, and he’s headed to college this fall.
And then there’s Shantell Steve, from my hometown of Chicago, Illinois. Even when bouncing from foster home to foster home in the toughest neighborhoods, she managed to get a job at a local health center; start a program to keep young people out of gangs; and she’s on track to graduate high school with honors and go on to college.
Jazmin, Andoni and Shantell aren’t any different from any of you. They faced challenges in their lives just like you do. But they refused to give up. They chose to take responsibility for their education and set goals for themselves. And I expect all of you to do the same.
That’s why today, I’m calling on each of you to set your own goals for your education – and to do everything you can to meet them. Your goal can be something as simple as doing all your homework, paying attention in class, or spending time each day reading a book. Maybe you’ll decide to get involved in an extracurricular activity, or volunteer in your community. Maybe you’ll decide to stand up for kids who are being teased or bullied because of who they are or how they look, because you believe, like I do, that all kids deserve a safe environment to study and learn. Maybe you’ll decide to take better care of yourself so you can be more ready to learn. And along those lines, I hope you’ll all wash your hands a lot, and stay home from school when you don’t feel well, so we can keep people from getting the flu this fall and winter.
Whatever you resolve to do, I want you to commit to it. I want you to really work at it.
I know that sometimes, you get the sense from TV that you can be rich and successful without any hard work -- that your ticket to success is through rapping or basketball or being a reality TV star, when chances are, you’re not going to be any of those things.
But the truth is, being successful is hard. You won’t love every subject you study. You won’t click with every teacher. Not every homework assignment will seem completely relevant to your life right this minute. And you won’t necessarily succeed at everything the first time you try.
That’s OK. Some of the most successful people in the world are the ones who’ve had the most failures. JK Rowling’s first Harry Potter book was rejected twelve times before it was finally published. Michael Jordan was cut from his high school basketball team, and he lost hundreds of games and missed thousands of shots during his career. But he once said, "I have failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed."
These people succeeded because they understand that you can’t let your failures define you – you have to let them teach you. You have to let them show you what to do differently next time. If you get in trouble, that doesn’t mean you’re a troublemaker, it means you need to try harder to behave. If you get a bad grade, that doesn’t mean you’re stupid, it just means you need to spend more time studying.
No one’s born being good at things, you become good at things through hard work. You’re not a varsity athlete the first time you play a new sport. You don’t hit every note the first time you sing a song. You’ve got to practice. It’s the same with your schoolwork. You might have to do a math problem a few times before you get it right, or read something a few times before you understand it, or do a few drafts of a paper before it’s good enough to hand in.
Don’t be afraid to ask questions. Don’t be afraid to ask for help when you need it. I do that every day. Asking for help isn’t a sign of weakness, it’s a sign of strength. It shows you have the courage to admit when you don’t know something, and to learn something new. So find an adult you trust – a parent, grandparent or teacher; a coach or counselor – and ask them to help you stay on track to meet your goals.
And even when you’re struggling, even when you’re discouraged, and you feel like other people have given up on you – don’t ever give up on yourself. Because when you give up on yourself, you give up on your country.
The story of America isn’t about people who quit when things got tough. It’s about people who kept going, who tried harder, who loved their country too much to do anything less than their best.
It’s the story of students who sat where you sit 250 years ago, and went on to wage a revolution and found this nation. Students who sat where you sit 75 years ago who overcame a Depression and won a world war; who fought for civil rights and put a man on the moon. Students who sat where you sit 20 years ago who founded Google, Twitter and Facebook and changed the way we communicate with each other.
So today, I want to ask you, what’s your contribution going to be? What problems are you going to solve? What discoveries will you make? What will a president who comes here in twenty or fifty or one hundred years say about what all of you did for this country?
Your families, your teachers, and I are doing everything we can to make sure you have the education you need to answer these questions. I’m working hard to fix up your classrooms and get you the books, equipment and computers you need to learn. But you’ve got to do your part too. So I expect you to get serious this year. I expect you to put your best effort into everything you do. I expect great things from each of you. So don’t let us down – don’t let your family or your country or yourself down. Make us all proud. I know you can do it.

This should be fun! There's been quite a bit of buzz in the blogosphere about the investment broker CLSA selecting Sarah Palin to be a, get this, KEYNOTE SPEAKER at their upcoming Asian conference. In the past, it seems that this honor has been bestowed on such intellectual giants as Bill Clinton, Allen Greenspan, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Al Gore, and Craig Ventor.

So why invite mental midget Sarah Palin?!?!? Will she even show up? Well, sounds like there is some big payola if she does, you betcha! I wondered if they're just out of their minds over in Hong Kong? No....this has GOT to be a goof. A little comic relief should ALWAYS be factored into a long intense conference, right? They want to see our wacky Queen of Quitdom get up on that stage and let loose with the nonsensical Twitter-bits and desiccated verbiage! Perhaps Bill Shatner will be there to interpret!!!!

We had a lovely time visiting the fam in New York City, Atlantic City and other points on the Jersey shore. I've allowed myself to be out of the cyber/political loop for awhile -I've been on the same Palin Detox as have some others-and mah head has been spinning since we returned. In short, I am DAZED and embarrassed by our former Gov's antics of late. Death panels, comparing Obama to HITLER?! Could it possibly get any weirder?!?! I'm quite sure it will-what a crazy carny ride this is!!!!

And THIS blew my mind~

In lush, quaint, suburban New Jersey stands prominently a pro-Palin 2012 sign. STILL! After all the shenanigans of late, some base Jersy Jethro is still gunning(pardon the pun) for our ole "intellectual lightweight, whack job" queen of the laugh factory!

Wow. I wanted to through eggs. Paint in that stache of hers. Maybe some devil horns like my "Hell NO!" tee-shirt... But, nay.
I think that incredible sign with that ridiculously laughable (and unflattering!)caricature says enough about the mentality of some.

And it's sad.

Let the sign stand alone there against the woods, by the road, intercepting the quiet view. Let it provoke guffaws and much talk and debate as it did with me and mine. Some family members got an education in Palinism!

Jesus “Happy” Christ on a crutch….More litigious douche-baggery from the Palin camp. Yet another lame threat to intimidate dissenters. Over the weekend, progressive Alaskan Blogger, Gryphen of Immoral Minority, was outed and slapped with a notice by Palin's attorney, Thomas Van Flein, for his alleged defamation and malice in reporting the possible "Palin split". The last sentence of this notification is the insidious threat:" If you do not have an attorney, please let me know if you want to be served with the summons and complaint at the kindergarten where you assist or at your residence. "

This intimidation brings the MAMA bear(no, not PALIN) ripping and gnashing from my heart.... If he had grounds to serve(LOL!), there would be no need to hunt Gryphen down in front of a classroom of impressionable and innocent 5 year olds. To actually threaten to interlope on a kindergarten class, to embarrass their beloved (and I'm certain he is)teacher, to put those children in a confusing position.... is REPUGNANT. And this futile grade school bullying just proved that Van Flein had NO GROUNDS. I'm the mommy of a 5 year old and I've been a Special Education Teaching Assistant for the ASD. Imagining this scenario makes me sick with anger. How can such a threat be legal?!? At the least, it is highly unprofessional and an embarrassment to the law firm involved. We simply should not tolerate this bullying from the corrupt upper echelon. Even if the usual outcome of all this menacing malarkey is...NOTHING.

Hmmmm....Palin resigns in 5 days...now THIS. This ethics complaint was filed by Eagle River resident Kim Chatman shortly after the defense fund was created. It must be a GOOD'UN!!!! An "independent" investigator from the Alaska ~~Crony~~ Personnel Board states there is "probable cause":

"The report obtained by The Associated Press says Palin is securing unwarranted benefits and receiving improper gifts through the Alaska Fund Trust, set up by supporters."

The board is recommending that Palin just refuse the money and make nice so as to avoid a formal hearing.

Prediction: Now we get to see Palin go batshite crazy. (Check out my side bar! It has begun!)Yawn. Anyone else SICK of this yet? What are YOU going to do about it? I want the truth. How did the Associated press obtain this report? Has Palin actually been aware of this over the past few months...while her resignation was "in the works"? She must have known since the 14th when the report was written, yes?
Ah. This just in: Palin was given a copy of the investigator's report a week ago, Chatman said Tuesday.
"It's an absolute shame that she would continue to keep the Alaska Fund Trust Web site up and running," Chatman told the AP.

I'll be waiting to see this unravel. If this is true...will all those wide eyed bedazzled followers of hers finally see the light? Will their wallets-empty after donating to her "Official " legal defense fund- be the final straw in shattering this farce? Or will the lemmings continue the march? It was penned by a former fundamentalist and psychologist who specializes in recovery from fundamentalist religion . This is a very interesting look at the tenets of evangelical Christianity and how it has NO place in our government...especially when espoused by Palin.

An open letter to Sarah Palin:
Dear Sarah,
As a former fundamentalist, I’d like to call you on what you are doing.

This is not about disrespecting your private beliefs. But you have a huge conflict of interest here by running for office and you can’t have it both ways (see Jesus’ words in John 2:15).

You have not been honest about the most important thing about you: the fact that you are a born-again, literal Bible-believing, evangelical Christian. Most people who have never been entrenched in the subculture of fundamentalist Christianity may not understand what this really means, but I do. Like you, I was raised in the Assemblies of God and I was a zealous part of the Jesus Movement. Like you, my life was consumed with seeking God’s will for my life and awaiting the imminent return of Jesus. It’s clear to me that you want to do the Lord’s will, and that is what concerns me. You’ve said and done things like a true believer would. You are on a mission from God. If that is not true, then I challenge you to deny it.

Former fundamentalists like me know that your worldview is so encompassing, authoritarian, and powerful that it defines who you think you are, the way you view the world, history, other people, the future, and your place in the world. It defines you far more than hockey mom, wife, woman, hunter, governor, or VP candidate.

You believe that every bit of the Bible is God’s perfect word. You have a supernatural view of reality where Satan is a real entity. You believe that alongside our material plane of existence, there is a more important spiritual plane where good and evil beings are engaged in “spiritualwarfare” (Ephesians 6:12). As a leader in the war against evil, you believe that God has “called” you and “anointed” you to do his will. This is why you have accepted blessing for office through the “laying on of hands” and prayer to protect you from witchcraft.

So what does this mean for governing? What could Americans expect with you at the helm?
You cannot affirm basic human decency or capability, because according to your dogma, we are sinful, weak, and dependent on God. And so, your decisions would not be based on expert advice or even your own reasoning, but on your gut-level, intuitive interpretation of God’s will. This would allow you to do anything and claim you were led by God.

Your thinking necessarily is black or white. People and policies are either good or bad. After all, Jesus said, “He who is not with me is against me” (Matt. 12:30). Under your leadership, diplomacy and cultural nuance would be less important than not blinking. In a spiritual war, you don’t negotiate with the devil.

Regarding social policy, as a believer in individual salvation, you would have an individual approach emphasizing morality and responsibility, not a community approach emphasizing structural solutions. You would be judgmental and controlling of personal behavior like sex, reproductive choice, and books borrowed from the library instead of addressing global warming, torture, poverty, and world peace. Your belief in eternal hell-fire, your deference to a literally perfect Bible despite its cruelties, and your indoctrination to disbelieve your own compassionate instincts, may leave your moral core numb. You might recall the verse, “If a man will not work he shall not eat” (2 Thess. 3:10). However, faith-based initiatives would be OK because they would use caring to evangelize.

How about science? As it has in your governorship, your interpretation of the Bible would trump scientific scholarship and findings. You would deny the human role in global warming because God is in control. More importantly, you would not make the environment a priority because you do not expect the earth to last.

International affairs? Since your subculture has identified the establishment of Israel in 1948 as the beginning of the end, you would see war, epidemics, climate change, natural disasters, and water shortage, all as hopeful signs of Jesus’ return. You would be a staunch supporter of Israel and deeply suspicious of countries like Russia identified with the antichrist in the end times literature. (You have publicly said that you expect Jesus to return in your lifetime and that it guides you every day.)

The Christian fundamentalism that has shaped your thinking teaches that working for peace is unbiblical and wrong because peace is not humanly possible without the return of Jesus (1 Thess. 5:2,3). Conflict, even outright war is inevitable, for Jesus came not to bring peace but a sword (Matt: 10:34-37). Like millions of fundamentalist Christians, you may actually find joy in global crises because these things portend His return (Luke 21:28).

But all of this certainty and fantasy in today’s complex world is dangerous, Sarah. There was a time when all of humanity thought the world was flat. Today, the stakes for such massive error are much higher.

My message for you, Warrior Princess for God, is from all of us who know what you are about. How dare you presume to take responsibility for our country and our planet when you, in your own mind, do not consider this home? I mean home for the long haul, not just until your rescue arrives from space. How dare you look forward to Christ’s return, leaving your public office empty like a scene from the movie, “Left Behind”?

What if you are completely wrong and you wreak havoc instead with your policies? If you deny global warming, brand people and countries “evil,” support war, and neglect global issues, you can create the apocalypse you are expecting. And as it gets worse and worse, with worldwide crisis all around you, and you look up for redemption, you just may not see it. What then? In that moment, you and all who have shared your delusion may have the most horrifying realization imaginable. And it will be too late. Too late to avoid destruction and too late to apologize to all the people who tried to turn the tide and needed you on board.

And you, John McCain, how dare you endanger all of us for the sake of your politics? How dare you choose a partner who is all symbol and no substance, preying on the fears of millions of Americans. Shame on both of you.

Leave this beautiful, fragile earth to us, the unbelievers in your fantasy. It’s the only heaven we have and you have no right to make it a hell.

Can't see beyond the next second...cutting and pasting from my other blog...

My family and I spent the weekend with dear friends, camping on their property on Montana Creek. We were joined by 2 other families as well as our friend's best buddy and beloved "uncle" to their children. A kind, loving, and LOYAL man, living singly without much family other then our friends, that my family always very much looked forward to seeing. We all suffered the death of this friend on Saturday as we hiked to a nearby river.

I can't see beyond the next second...What I do know is that while my family is awake I DON'T want to be plugged into this box, this FALSE world. I want to be PRESENT for/with them. As much as I love writing and trying to help further the progressive cause-at this moment-it's not worth the time it takes me away from them. I know I will have to wrestle with the idea that I need to have the things that enrich ME and make me whole-and how to better incorporate them into my life shared with others. At This Moment, unless my family is sleeping or not at home, I can't fit this in when I could be with them. When my head stops reeling, I'll try for the mornings when all are asleep. I guess I'll be in limbo for awhile.

I'm glad our friend was able to raise a toast with us and reveled happily in the news of Palin's resignation-the little bit of info we managed to get being out of touch on the creek Friday...

I just see red right now. And fuck you, too, Sarah Palin ,while I'm at it, with those beautiful children at home who need their godamned mother. You could loose them all in the blink of an eye, you twit. In one mutherfucking INSTANT. Why do you "women" throw away your CHILDREN?!!??!

3. Letterman apologizes for the bumble.

4. Her Highness, "They don't call her Grace for nuthin", Sarah Palin continues her titty baby media blitz and playing the feminist card-this after her daughter acts as Candies Ambassador-chick for abstinence and skanky hoe-ery:

Irony, Ms. Palin!! Sponsoring teen abstinence while their ads contain sexually-charged images that convey the opposite of abstinence.

5. More vacuous idiots stage an Anti-Letterman rally outside his theater. Many demand his firing. His FIRING!!! ROFLMAOAPIMP!!!!!!!!!

6. Letterman apologizes graciously and succinctly AGAIN.

7. Palin "accepts" the apology in her characteristically, un-gracious, classless, drama club way.

8. Fast forward to John "He is SUCH the comedian!" Kerry who makes his own goofy Palin joke.

9. Palin, the mental GIANT retorts with :

"Senator John Kerry makes this joke..I don't know if you saw this...but he makes this joke saying 'Well, shoot, of all the governors in the nation to disappear, too bad it couldn't have been that Governor from Alaska.'

and wraps it up with David Letterman's own Kerry joke :

"Well, when he said it he looked quite frustrated, and he looked so sad, and I just wanted to reach out to the TV and say "John Kerry, why the long face?"

Jeez! I leave town for a few days of fishin’ and the blogosphere is chock full-o-excitement and wonder!

Linda Kellen Biegel over at Celtic Diva's Blue Oasis, has been involved in an ongoing effort to have e-mail records released to her regarding dubious communications between Palin, her court and various anti Anti-Palin types who may have been incited to attack prominent dissenters of Queen Palin. The self-proclaimed "Homophobic, Red Shirt, Bible Thumping Nazi, Tea Bagging, Gay Bashing, Racist, White Guy, Bigot, H8R " , Conservative talk show host, Eddie Burke being a prominent figure. Just over a week ago, Linda started her Accountability Drive with the goal of raising the $5,552.64 required to have the records released. After initially being told that the cost of releasing the e-mails would be an OUTRAGEOUS $65,000, Linda resolutely pursued an explanation of the breakdown of cost for the process of researching these communications. The price was K-Marted down to the $5,552.64. Hmmmm…gee that’s interesting! Quite a reduction there…
Imagine my surprise when I returned home to find that the goal had been reached!!!

Right on! And the BEST part: The Palin-whipped site, Conservatives for Palin has been engaged in their own fundraising for Palin’s Alaska Fund Trust. The Accountability Drive spanked the C4Peers drive soundly, percentage-wise. Apparently Linda garnered more donations in 4 days than C4Pee –a site with 30 times the traffic Blue Oasis has! or had? In an e-mail I just received from Linda, she states that her blog stats have BLASTED up!

Shannyn Moore and AKM of Mudflats both wrote great pieces on The Huffington Post which I’m know greatly helped propel Linda’s story! Thanks all! (Here's another great write-up at Switched!)But one can't help but wonder at how all the conservative manufactured indignation over Linda's ~~Desecrated Madonna~~ Photoshopped picture of Palin and “Son” actually prompted a surge in donations to Linda's effort and increased traffic on her blog as well! Thanks, C4Pee, and thank YOU, Sarah and company! Once again your histrionics come back to bite you in the ass.

Tonight, wine and trout as we sit out on the deck and watch Palin's career careening downward....that view gets clearer every day!

After Palin's sophomoric "Twitter" hint about the deal, TransCanada and Exxon make the announcement that they are going to work together on the natural gas pipeline.

"The statement contained no details but the companies have scheduled a noon teleconference (Alaska time) with reporters to discuss it. Some Alaska state legislators were briefed by TransCanada this morning, and at least one emerged highly skeptical about the importance of the development.

Exxon isn't talking, other than to say that some of the details provided by state legislators about the deal aren't totally accurate. What's happening seems to depend on who you talk to.

“My take is what’s going on here is a completely overblown media circus,” said Anchorage Rep. Mike Hawker."

Whatever role Exxon may actually play, this partnership is a slap in the face to all Alaskans. But Sarah digs that kind of thing, right?

$28.6 million of it was slated for energy relief.

The US ofA's most maverkicky and foremost authority on energy, also, has been a busy gal slicing and dicing. I want to sit and blog about this. But I want to go outside and pick "dandies" and plant lettuce with my little one MORE.

OK!!! SECOND time around!!!! I had just about finished this post when I hit some friggin' key that erased everything...... I finally get to sit down at the box to post, after a busy week, and....gggggrrrrrrr! WASTE of time!!!!

It's been just too nice out with the boomin' sun warming our souls to be inside at the box or catching up on chores. After the solar deprivation of last year, I'm taking it when I can, dammit. Mainlining that stuff. I have my new friend, Exceedingly Long Extension Cord, and I'm not beyond doing my woodworking, ironing, sewing, etc. OUTSIDE. However, I draw the line at dragging the computer outside. I was secretly hoping for a rainy day today(wouldn't want to offend the sun gods) so that I would have the excuse to be inside, do some posting and catch up reading, and get this house in order.

Whatev. On to the The Dead show at the Forum. The show was sick! SICK, I tell ye!!!! First, we had a friggin' blast with our friends Chantel and Rob who moved from Alaska to Cali a few months ago. We're feeling bummed about the distance. I don't know too many people who can make waiting at midnight in a parking lot outside the Santa Anna airport with a flat tire sans jack wrench for the repair guy to come fix it, a ripping story and laugh fest! The next morning we lounged, talked, swam in the pool , and dipped in the hot tub in their paradisical back yard before the temps hit 100 degrees +.

Then is was off for the 2 hour ride to the Forum. We got there about an hour early so that we could peruse Shakedown Street-the vending section of the parking lot-for unique t-shirts for the fam, beer, and handmade goodies.

As I said, the show was phenomenal. Origionally up in the nosebleeds again, Huz managed to sneak us past security into the lower teir and better "seats"-a spot on the stairs next to some seats, actually. The sets included a 50 min. long jazzy, bluesy, rockin' improv, their older songs- some rarely played in the past, and a mindblowing soulpounding Drums set. They were just hot, tight, and jumpin'. Warren Haynes did a fantastic job stepping into Jerry's Garcia's shoes.

Huz , feeling skeptical about how the band would do after so many years and without Jerry, thought it was one of the best shows he's seen. And he has seen tons over the years. I am SO grateful(no pun intended) to have finally seen a show before they all go onto different journeys in life, and to have been able to experience it all with my Huz, my bestest friend. No better person to see a show with. Or anything, for that matter.

I'm headed to Convicted And Then Un-convicted Ted Stevens International Airport. The Huz and I are going on an extended "Date Night"! We're off to see The Dead in LA before any more members croak! This will be my first show, and Huz's millionth. He toured with them much when he was a wiley lad. We'll be staying and playing with our friends Chantel and Rob in Palm Springs and be back by Friday evening. I'm hoping this will be the insane musical, photo taking, patchwork hippy clothes buying, people watching Bacchanalia I always dreamed of!

We enjoyed an abridged celebration of Mother's Day last weekend since we'll be gone most of the day Sunday. I got a swell new pair of protective goggles for my woodworking, a lovely slab of maple for my woodworking and a bunch of flower starts for my....flower gardening. A happy Mother's Day to all the mommies out there!!!!

An ethics complaint against Alaska Governor Sarah Palin will be filed this afternoon asserting that Palin’s involvement with SarahPAC constitutes "outside employment" and "misuse of official position."

Anchorage resident Sondra Tompkins, child disability advocate and mother of a special needs child, is filing the complaint after observing Governor Palin repeatedly display “a pattern of unethical behavior.” Sondra believes that the tipping point for her was Sarah Palin’s most recent abdication of her role as Governor and apparent conflict-of-interest when she spoke at two outside events in Indiana rather than work with the Alaska Legislature during the most critical time, the end of the session.

The complaint alleges:

a) Governor Palin has entered into a contract outside of her official duties with the donors, employees, partners and any or all other participants involved in Sarah PAC.

b) The recent partisan trip to Indiana by the Governor was purely to benefit personal interests, had no benefit for the State of Alaska and was in direct conflict with her official duties.

c) The Governor left the State to participate in these events during the most critical end-of-session Legislative activities, at a time where the legislators themselves are not permitted to leave.

More from Melissa Green: I'm a writer-blogger, not a political blogger — though I did try it out a little last fall after Palin became a vice-presidential candidate. But it proved too emotionally exhausting for me, & other Alaska progressive bloggers were doing it better. Sometimes, though, you gotta take a stand on something. So here's the letter that I just finished sending out to Alaska legislators. Every. Single. One. Of. Them. It's about my opposition to confirming Wayne Anthony Ross as Alaska Attorney General.

Dear Senator/Representative:

I am writing on my own behalf to express my opposition to Wayne Anthony Ross as Alaska Attorney General. Amongst other things, this letter provides substantiation for one of the claims made in public testimony by Paige Hodgson during the Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on April 8 about Mr. Ross' opinions about domestic violence.

I oppose Mr. Ross' confirmation on several grounds:
· His biased and even misogynistic attitudes with regard to domestic violence, sexual violence, and violence against women and children, about which I have more to say below.
· His antigay attitudes, as expressed in his calling lesbians and gays "degenerates" in a letter to the Alaska Bar Association in 1992. In his House Judiciary Committee testimony last week, he compared lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transsexual/transgender Alaskans to "lima beans," a vegetable he "hates" but would still "represent" if he was hired to be the advocate for "United Vegetable Growers." His un-apt and tortured analogy brings no reassurance to those of us who have already suffered the brunt of his antigay slanders.
· His longstanding opposition to Alaska Native sovereignty and subsistence rights, about which representatives of the Alaska Native community have testified.
· His lackadaisical attitude with regard to possible ethical violations by the Governor, as shown in his replies to Rep. Jay Ramras' questions on Friday in the House Judiciary Committee (regarding Gov. Palin's wearing of Arctic Cat gear, regarding her possible book tour, regarding other ethics-related questions). As has been pointed out by others, part of the Attorney General's job is to advise the Governor on questions of executive ethics. Mr. Ross' answers indicate he will more likely simply turn a blind eye.
· His qualifications as a practitioner of law. His middling scores on the Alaska Bar Association surveys when he applied for seats on the Alaska Supreme Court and Court of Appeals are not simply statistics, but indicative of the opinion those of his colleagues in the bar who have had direct professional experience with him have for his professional competence, integrity, fairness, judicial temperament, suitability for the position, and overall performance. Obviously candidates for Attorney General are not judged according to the same standards as used by the Alaska Judicial Council — but perhaps they should be. In any event, his mediocre scores are instructive. Further evidence of Mr. Ross' capabilities as an attorney — particularly, I would say, with regard to temperament, and hence his ability to work productively with others — can be found in last Wednesday's public testimony by Vic Vitale, a retired attorney who reported having tried many cases against Mr. Ross. Mr. Vitale described Mr. Ross as "ill prepared in court," "bombastic," and "very rigid," and said that in his experience Mr. Ross "doesn't give credence to contrary arguments." The picture which begins to emerge is that of someone who has closed his mind and does not permit contrary evidence to sway him. Is this the person who should be appointed to direct the state's largest law firm?
I want now to go into further discussion of his views about violence against women and children.

By way of background, I am an 18-year staff member of the Justice Center at University of Alaska Anchorage, where I am responsible for the preparation and layout of research documents, including our quarterly, the Alaska Justice Forum. I'm also responsible for the design and maintenance of the by-now extensive Justice Center website. As such, I am very familiar with the groundbreaking research conducted in recent years by the Justice Center's Dr. André Rosay and his research partners on sexual violence and violence against women in Alaska, and in fact helped to prepare most of the materials which Dr. Rosay presented to the Senate Judiciary Committee when he testified there on March 25.

My familiarity with Dr. Rosay's research findings made me all the more alarmed when I heard the testimony at last week's Senate and House Judiciary Committee hearings on Mr. Ross' appointment. I mean not only the public testimony of Leah Burton to the House Judiciary Committee on the statements about spousal rape and domestic violence which Mr. Ross is alleged to have made at a DADS group meeting in the early 1990s — testimony I personally find credible — but also the public testimony last week to the Senate Judiciary Committee of Paige Hodgson, who discussed comments made by Mr. Ross at a panel discussion a few years ago at University of Alaska Anchorage. According to Ms. Hodgson, Mr. Ross, who was one of the panel presenters, remarked that domestic abuse was on the rise because the equal rights movement "emasculated men" and caused them in turn to beat their wives. He further insinuated that women lied about domestic violence in order to gain advantage in child custody cases.

On questioning by the committee, Ms. Hodgson stated that she had asked the university to set up the panel discussion, and that it was organized by Dr. Sharon Araji. Dr. Araji was at that time a sociology professor at UAA but has since joined the faculty of University of Colorado in Denver. In an attempt to verify the testimony, I wrote to Dr. Araji last week, and today received an email in reply, in which Dr. Araji wrote:
Yes, he was on the panel that was a community workshop. Andre [Rosay] and Pam [Kelley] are well aware of this workshop as [the] Justice [Center] also participated in it. I think it was Fall of 2005 — it was in conjunction with the PBS documentary "Breaking the Silence". This was about children's experiences when they were given to abusive parents in contested custody battles. I don't remember what Wayne's words were exactly, but his attitude was quite cavalier and placed the blame anywhere but on the abusive husbands/partners.
Research on the UAA website confirms that the event, cosponsored by the UAA Sociology Department and the Justice Center, was held on the UAA campus on October 14, 2005 in advance of KAKM's broadcast of "Breaking the Silence: Children's Stories" the following week. The event included a showing of the documentary, followed by a panel discussion and discussion with the audience. Justice Center faculty member Pamela Kelley, J.D. was among the panelists, along with Dr. Araji and Mr. Ross.

I spoke with Professor Kelley this afternoon about the panel. Like Dr. Araji, she has no recollection of a specific remark by Mr. Ross about the equal rights movement "emasculating men," but she indicated that Mr. Ross' comments on the panel were much as both Paige Hodgson and Dr. Araji characterized them, "hook line and sinker" taking an extremist "dads' rights" position that excused abusive men from any responsibility for domestic violence and abuse, and alleging that accusations of such crimes were generally fabricated in order to gain advantage in divorce or child custody battles — regardless of evidence to the contrary.

This should come as no surprise to members of the Senate Judiciary Committee and others who heard Mr. Ross' testimony last Wednesday, April 8, because many of his statements there echoed such opinions — for example, Mr. Ross contended that Office of Children's Services workers, who are tasked with protecting children from abuse, are actually trying to remove children from families in order to "get money from the legislature" or that at least some people are accused of child abuse "just because they offended an OCS worker." Of course there are men who prove to be innocent of charges of abuse and domestic and sexual violence brought against them. But Mr. Ross, who claimed in his testimony that "all my clients are innocent" (by implication, even those who were found guilty in court), appears to have a strong bias against even entertaining the possibility of guilt on the part of a husband, boyfriend, or father accused of these serious crimes, regardless of the evidence.

Mr. Ross also showed considerable ignorance of the facts regarding sexual violence in the state — for example, that Alaska has the dubious distinction of having the highest rates of sexual assault in the nation. "I've heard that," he told the committee, "and I have no way to verify if that's correct." (Committee members, of course, had received ample proof just two weeks before when Dr. Rosay presented UAA research to them.) Asked by Sen. Lesil McGuire "how you intend to tackle and educate yourself" about these issues, Mr. Ross evaded the question, telling the committee how after his few days on the job so far, he now knew "where the men's room was" and was learning how to use the state email system, commenting that "learning new things" was part of the fun of the job. Once again the word "cavalier" comes to mind.

Is someone with such a proven bias qualified to take on the role of Alaska's chief law enforcement officer, and head of the department charged with prosecuting these crimes? Research shows that less than 30 percent of founded cases of sexual violence reported to the Alaska State Troopers actually result in a conviction. Might we not expect conviction rates for founded cases to go down even further under an Attorney General who, biased to believe all the accused to be innocent regardless of evidence, might well pressure the district attorneys under his supervision to pull their punches?

Mr. Ross claims that he can fairly represent and protect the rights of all Alaskans, including all of those he has shown enmity, disregard, and contempt toward throughout his long career. I am not so confident.

I urge you to vote against Mr. Ross' confirmation as Attorney General.

My name is Leah Burton. My father is former Commissioner of Public Safety, Richard L. Burton, who served under both Governor Hammond and Governor Hickel. I grew up in a law enforcement environment. Mr. Ross testimony today in response to Senator Hollis' questions about domestic violence and sexual assault victims enhances my testimony as to his prejudice on this very serious topic, especially given that, "Alaska rates among the top 5 states in the nation for per capita rates of domestic violence." (FBI/UCR 2007)
From 1989 through 1997 I lobbied on behalf of families and children in Alaska with regard to child support, custody, abuse, abandonment and neglect. In the course of that time my efforts put me in conflict with a group known then as the Dads Against Discrimination (DADS), and later renamed the Alaska Family Support Group.
Mr. Ross is one of the most successful attorneys in Alaska in his representation of the members of this organization and others who sought to avoid payment of child support through several means, not the least of which was to fight for custody.
In 1991, the DADS group held an area wide meeting at a Denny's Restaurant in Anchorage near DeBarr & Bragaw. I chose to go and sit in the main area of the restaurant near the opening of the meeting room where they convened so I was able to hear what they had to say and find out what plans they had for the upcoming legislative session.
At that point they still did not know what I looked like so I was able to sit there unnoticed. The meeting was well attended, Steve Strube was the head of the group at that time and another known member, John Grames (who Strube referred to as his Lt.), was also in attendance along with enough other members to fill the room. They were delighted to have Wayne Anthony Ross in attendance as a guest speaker.
Numerous comments were made that were appalling, not the least of which were remarks by Mr. Ross which included the following; "If a guy can't rape his wife...who's he gonna rape?" and "There wouldn't be an issue with domestic violence if women would learn to keep their mouths shut."
Other members made their own contributions such as, "We have the right to discipline our wives and children without the interference of government in our lives!"
These comments were greeted with laughter and affirmative responses by the group. Given the fact that they had referred to me in recent months as a "femi-nazi", the comments I was witness to at this meeting, while abhorrent, were unfortunately not surprising.
This announcement by Governor Palin is a slap in the face to all single parents who have no choice but to rely upon the State Department of Law to support court orders for child support, as well as those persons who need the Department to enforce criminal laws against sexual assault and domestic violence. Mr. Ross is the antithesis of the type of person that should be the Attorney General. This has been clearly demonstrated by his own words and actions in public.
In closing, I am not alone in my assessment that anyone who condones, and contributes to that type of hateful and harmful discourse clearly does not have the judgment necessary to represent the people of the State of Alaska as their Attorney General.
Given his other special interests and his stated opposition to subsistence rights and other Alaska Native issues, I have brought this forth as yet another dimension of Mr. Ross' demonstrated inability to represent all the people of the State of Alaska fairly and impartially.
His clear racial and gender prejudice raise serious concerns with regard to his ability to represent all residents of the State of Alaska fairly and impartially as their Attorney General.

In the wake of Ted Stevens's exoneration, his new BFF, Sarah ""the verdict shines a light on the corrupting influence of the big oil service company up there in Alaska that was allowed to control too much of our state" Palin, is ACTUALLY CALLING FOR MARK BEGICH TO STEP DOWN!!!!

What was that, Sarah, about "asinine political grandstanding" costing "all of us in time and money?" Yes, lets put our dollars(we have SO many of those things these days) to work and have ANOTHER ELECTION!

Yes, he had quite the wacky jury! Yes, the prosecution effed up HARDCORE-so upsetting because it just didn't need to happen. Just because the Justice Department dropped the charges doesn't mean Stevens is INNOCENT ! PLEASE...the guy was so blatantly guilty. Remember this?, "the worst that can happen to us is we round up a bunch of legal fees and might lose and we might have to pay a fine, might have to serve a little time in jail."

Seems that Begich will not be bothering to respond to Palin's call much less resign his position.

In light of the effort to re-write history after the government's decision to drop charges against Ted Stevens, there is a drastic need to see short letters to the editor TODAY -- and calls to talk radio shows TODAY -- showing Alaskans have opinions other than the ones like Randy Ruedrich's calling for Senator Begich to resign. Here are four concepts for letters that need to appear and thoughts that need to be expressed on talk radio:

1. Mark Begich was elected because he was the better candidate. It was time to move on and have new representation in Washington DC, and Begich was the right choice. He did a very good job as Mayor of Anchorage and was engaged actively in running the city, making it a better place to live during his 6 years on the job. He had been leading in the polls during the Spring and Summer of last year, long before there were any indictments against Stevens.

2. Mark Begich is doing a great job as U.S. Senator. He has supported getting all the funds possible for Alaska while others, including Murkowski who voted against the funds, and Palin who refused to accept some of the funds, play politics. He has been working across the aisle with Senator Murkowski and with other senators to make sure Alaska gets all the help and support he can. We are very lucky to have him there.

3. Ted Stevens was indicted for doing something illegal. There was evidence to back that up. He accepted gifts that he then never reported, as required by law. The fact that the Obama administration decided to not pursue a case that the Bush administration lawyers handled in a faulty manner does not take away the fact that Ted Stevens broke laws.

4. It would cost hundreds of thousands of dollars to hold a special election. Why would we waste taxpayers' dollars this way?

Please take a line or two from any of these topics and submit them to papers around the state or call in with these points to your local talk-radio station. What a colossal horses ASS. Democratic Representative Mike Doogan, in a fit of vengeance has omnipotently outed the author of the Alaskan progressive political blog, MUDFLATS, because he feels that if one is to going to publicly voice their opinion, one should stand by their opinion and use their real name.

This public harassment, bloodlust for revenge, and attempts to shut up dissenters by our elected officials is becoming an all too familiar theme here in Alaska. Just go on over to CELTIC DIVA'S BLUE OASIS to see what happens when you try to take right and just action.

I also urge you to go and read AkMuckraker's(It's a pleasure to "meet" you, AKM) post on Doogan's indecent exposure-if you can even get on the site. I will post some excerpts here that I think every Alaskan-hell, every American- should take to heart: Apparently Doogan has no problem with what the consequences of his actions might mean for AKM, her family and friends...

"I was a bit surprised to see my real name, as you can imagine. But after the initial surprise wore off, it really hit me. This is an elected State Representative, of my own political party, who has decided that it’s not OK for me to control the information about my identity; that it’s not OK to express my opinion on my own blog without shouting from the rooftops who I am."

Doogan is that either 1) he feels that if he “outs” me, he’ll change what I have to say, or keep me from saying anything. 2) he gets to play mystery detective (like in his books) and believes people will think he’s really cool for figuring it out, or 3) he feels like getting revenge. He knows I want to remain anonymous, so he’s going to take it away. In any of those three scenarios, he didn’t think it was important to get the bigger picture.

And in any of those three scenarios we should probably find it disturbing that an elected official is using his time and mental energy in this way, against an ordinary citizen. I don’t need to remind Mudflats readers that Alaska is in a time of turmoil. We are facing unknown consequences with an erupting volcano that threatens to wipe out a tank farm on Cook Inlet holding 6 million gallons of oil. We have critical issues in the legislature, including Alaska’s acceptance or rejection of hundreds of millions of dollars in federal stimulus money for education and other critical purposes. We have a governor who has just chosen an incredibly divisive and extreme right wing idealogue as our new Attorney General. And there are only three weeks left in the legislative session. It bothers me quite a bit that instead of focusing all his energy on doing his job, one of our elected representatives would rather spend his time stalking and harrassing a political blogger."

Here we go again..Ethics complaint is being filed against Sarah "Arctic Cat" Palin

I've admired Linda Kellen Biegel of Celtic Diva's Blue Oasis ever since I saw her expressive and well written dialogue on the Alaska Daily News's Alaska Political Blogs forum. She's an erudite ethicist with a lot of STUGOTS.

I woke up bleary eyed this morning to an email from Linda. I'm awake now! But my head is still stuffed with cotton(that's what ya get for reading until 1am)so I'm going straight into this shit-is-gonna-hit-the-fan news:

PRESS RELEASE: March 24, 2009
Linda Kellen Biegel, better known as blogger "Celtic Diva," is filing an ethics complaint with the Attorney General today against Governor Sarah Palin. The complaint alleges a conflict of interest when Governor Palin wore specially designed snow-machine gear advertising her husband Todd's biggest Iron Dog sponsor, Arctic Cat Inc. She did so while acting in her official capacity as Governor of the State of Alaska and official starter of the Iron Dog Snow Machine Race.

Not only was she well aware that there would be extensive Alaska media coverage, the Palins also knew that international magazine Sports Illustrated was coming to do a story on Todd.
Biegel provides links to the Palins' APOC Financial Disclosure Statements for the last two years, which reveal the thousands of dollars Todd Palin receives in sponsorship benefits from Arctic Cat.

While there is nothing illegal in actually receiving sponsorship money, this makes the Governor's wearing of Arctic Cat gear while representing Alaska the equivalent of a walking billboard, providing benefits to a private company from whom she and her family derive income.
The complaint claims Governor Palin violated of AS39.52.120 of the Alaska Executive Branch Ethics Act, Misuse of official position:

(A) A public officer may not use, or attempt to use, an official position for personal gain, and may not intentionally secure or grant unwarranted benefits or treatment for any person;

(3) use state time, property, equipment or other facilities to benefit personal or financial interests

UPDATE: The story below has been updated since I started this post. Now there has been a 5th explosion-the strongest yet-ash plume up to 60,000ft. Ash is still not expected to hit Anchorage.

After months of threatening rumbles, Mount Redoubt finally exploded overnight in five separate eruptions, the latest sometime 5 a.m. today.A fourth explosion had rocked the volcano at 1:39 a.m. after three eruptions earlier in the night sent an ash cloud an estimated 50,000 feet into the air, the Alaska Volcano Observatory reported.The first eruption came at 10:38 p.m. Sunday followed by another at 11:02 p.m., and a third at 12:14 a.m. today.Winds were carrying the ash plume north toward the Susitna Valley, and an ash advisory has been issued for the area until 8 a.m., the National Weather Service said.Ash was not expected in Anchorage or Wasilla at this time, the Weather Service said, although they said a light dusting might be possible.

So with the economy the way it is, I've had a definite decline in clientele and many an empty Saturday since December. But OF COURSE on the Saturday of an imperative rally, I'm finally BOOKED and can't get out of it. I'm surprised my teeth didn't shatter from clenching them. After all those fantastic and productive rallys of the past months, I'm going through rally withdrawals.
But thanks to all who showed up to represent! Another successful rally! I've heard there were between 100 and 500 protester there?!?! Right on! Here's the story from ADN:
